FATAL
CONTACT
MOVIE REVIEW Fatal contact is an intense action thriller that left me extremely satisfied. Initially going into the film one would assume FATAL CONTACT to be another flashy martial arts film, with sub par characters that lack any other talent besides their fighting ability. Could I have been more wrong? FATAL CONTACT possessed an intricate weaving of sub plots that enhanced the progression of a dramatic main story line. Each character surprisingly had their individual identity with separate motives that had me glued to the seat until the very end. Jacky Wu Jing plays the role of "Kong Ko," a humble but talented Kung Fu national team member. Along with love interest, Miki Yeung, "SiuTin," Kong gets involved in the dangerous sport of underground street fighting. Tin and Kong provide a strong and believable connection that makes the romance sub plot a legitimate part of the movie and not just a cheesy fill in. Wu Jing is involved in a total of 10 stunning action sequences with each one providing a tasteful amount of "String Fu" patented by many martial arts classics. Overall, with the help of funny man Ronald Cheng, FATAL CONTACT was an amazingly well rounded story leaving the audience with answered questions and a satisfied conclusion to an epic whirlwind of action and romance. English language is offered as a refreshing option to the default Cantonese setting. But if you really want to feel like you’re a part of the Hong Kong experience, English and Spanish subtitles are handy. RATING: Highly recommend to film enthusiasts of all kinds. The 2 disc DVD set provides a special features disc with interesting interviews including Wu Jing, Miki Yeung, and Dennis Law, writer and director of the film. The bonus disc features several behind the scenes action and training clips that really expose the viewer to up and coming martial arts star Jacky Wu Jing.
